About Our Students
A Degree in Chemistry at UNC Asheville is a shortcut to success

Enter a Student Graduate a Scientist
UNC Asheville chemistry students will have hands-on opportunities to use chemical equipment, instrumentation and theoretical software.
Learn how to be a scientist by
- understanding the interdisciplinary nature of science
- solving research problems from the atomic level to the earth’s environment
- analyzing and interpreting data to expand chemical understanding
- analyzing molecular structures and reactions experimentally and computationally
- understanding the use, function and design of chemical instrumentation
I came to UNC Asheville with no intention of taking chemistry classes beyond a lab science requirement, but my first semester general chemistry course invoked my interest more than I had expected. I was directed by my advisor to enroll in more chemistry courses, and after two semesters of classes and a summer or research I realized how integral the UNC Asheville chemistry department would be to both my education and life. The individual attention offered by the faculty, coupled with irreplaceable undergraduate research opportunities and augmented by an intensive degree structure designed to challenge and prepare students for a variety of graduate school and career options made the choice to major in chemistry one of the best investments of my undergraduate experience. As a track and field athlete, I want the quality of my education to be unmarred by time I have to spend traveling for meets, and the communicable nature and dedication of the chemistry faculty make it possible for me to succeed academically while pursuing my athletic goals. I am grateful to have encountered such a rewarding opportunity. Corey McClintock, Class of 2013
